      Job Description: The Safety Director is responsible for developing, leading, overseeing and effectively managing all areas of safety for Gallagher Asphalt Corporation, Gallagher Materials, Shepley Motor Express and Chicago Testing Laboratory (All Companies). Essential Job Duties: • Design and implement safety strategy and training programs for all companies, that will improve safety performance and change culture. • Provide technical support to the Company and its Manager(s). • Establish safety action plans to achieve safety objectives. • Monitor and enforce Corporate Safety Policies. Works with Company representatives to identify and develop new safety policies as required. • Ensures that each facility maintains accurate written program documentation that meets regulatory standards and is understandable to field personnel. • Routinely visit jobsites, laboratories and plants. • Conducts comprehensive on-site safety audits of projects and multiple facilities; determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented. • Inspect work zones and provide written documentation of such inspections and file appropriate reports. • Respond to on-call emergencies. • Develop/Instruct personnel in emergency procedures. • Develop, implement and manage cost reduction programs relative to workers compensation. • Develop relationships with regulatory agencies for the purpose of ensuring compliance and positive working partnerships with agencies. • Act as Company’s liaison during OSHA and EPA government inspections. • Follow up on all federal EPA and OSHA audits and correspondence. • Participate in all Companies safety performance appraisals of facilities. • Prepare monthly and annual Safety Reports. • Manage the drug and alcohol testing policy and procedures. • Review all Company vehicle accidents, employee incident and “near miss” reports. • Lead the ongoing development of Gallagher Asphalt’s safety policy. • Promote Behavior-Based Safety. • Direct safety in the workplace activities for all shops, plants, labs and office locations. • Recommends and enforces disciplinary actions against safety policy violators. • Coordinate insurance and legal related reporting and services within all divisions. • Direct the actions of all foreman and superintendents in all aspects of DOT and safety compliance. • Collect safety and environmental data for the annual activity report. • Prepare Job Hazard Analysis. • Travel as necessary. • Other duties as assigned.
