Summary Description: This Entry Level Safety Specialist position is responsible for assisting in the planning, establishment, implementation, and maintenance of a variety of health, safety and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for associates. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with plant operations and maintenance. Key Accountabilities: •Understand and share health and safety compliance requirements under federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and codes as they apply to the manufacturing environment •Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements •Create action plans and present recommendations to varying levels of the organization. •Assist/develop, implement and update written safety and health programs and plans as needed. These may include, but are not limited to: • Hazard Communication Program • Exposure Control Program (Blood borne Pathogens, TB) • Hazard Assessment and Personal Protective Equipment Program (PPE) • Respiratory Protection Program Chemical Hygiene Plan (including Lab Safety) • Hazard Communication Program Lockout/Tag out (LOTO) • Confined Space Entry Program • Emergency Action Plan • Fall Protection Program • Lift Truck Safety Plan • Contractor Safety Program • Process Safety Management – PSM for Ammonia •Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a safety policy handbook and safety policies as required by law •Recognize hazards and implement corrective actions to minimize the risk associated with them. •Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Review injury and near miss reports. •Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws or reporting requirements •Other duties as assigned, including special projects that may require significant travel to manufacturing plant locations. •Regular requirements to sit and enter data in the computer. Standing, walking and climbing inside and outside of plant buildings. Frequent travel will be required.
