Kappa - Establishing a New Chapter
Purpose

This procedure shall be utilized to
assist universities in structuring Rho Sigma Kappa
chapters prior to the emergence of a national Rho
Sigma Kappa governing body. |
Acceptance Criteria

- Rho Sigma Kappa chapters shall be established
only in colleges and universities that grant
baccalaureate or higher degrees in occupational
safety and health related fields.
- Membership shall be formulated without regard
to race, creed, handicap, gender, political
affiliation or national origin, and may
incorporate both students and/or outstanding
professionals in the field of occupational safety
and health.
- Eligibility based primarily upon a
combination of outstanding scholarship and
leadership credentials; election from the
highest twenty-five percent of the class in
scholarship (based upon student grade point
averages).
- Eligibility based primarily upon outstanding
professional conduct in the occupational safety
and health field (e.g. professional safety and
health practitioners and/or faculty members).
- The following officers shall be installed to
direct the activities of each Rho Sigma Kappa
chapter: President, Vice President, Secretary, and
Treasurer.
- Each officer shall be elected by a majority
vote and shall serve for a minimum of one year.
- Additional officers and committee chairpersons
may also be elected.
- Duties and powers of the officers must be
explicitly stated in writing.
- An advisor shall be asked to oversee the
actions of Rho Sigma Kappa and must be a faculty
member form the Safety and health Department.
- Assurances should be incorporated into the
management of the chapter which will serve to
protect the continued viabilityof the
organization.
- Inductions of new students that meet the
eligibility requirements as set forth by the
individual chapter shall be conducted at regularly
scheduled induction ceremonies (e.g. every
semester).
- Financial obligations of Rho Sigma Kappa
members shall be explicitly stated in writing,
along with the repercussions that will be assessed
to those members failing to conform.
- Membership shall be revoked for members whose
conduct violates the ethical standards of
integrity and professionalism which typify the
ideals of the Rho Sigma Kappa honor society. A
plan for evaluating and removing members
exemplifying such conduct must be provided in
writing.
- Official business of Rho Sigma Kappa is to be
conducted at regular business meetings. A system
should be provided in writing describing how such
assemblies will be announced and publicized.
