American Society for Safety Engineers - IUP Student Chapter

The American Society of Safety Engineers was founded in 1911 and is the oldest professional safety organization in the United States. ASSE has 140 chapters nationwide and 54 student sections within 8 regions. Chapters offer localized membership services, networking and professional development opportunities through seminars, conferences, meetings, and newsletters. Through its ten divisions, ASSE offers professional development opportunities and technical assistance in various career paths. These divisions are: Construction, Consultants, Engineering, Environmental, Healthcare, Management, Public Sector, Risk Management / Insurance, Transportation, and International. The Safety Sciences Department has had a Student Chapter of the ASSE for more than 20 years and have won the "Outstanding ASSE Student Section" five times during that time period. All students are encouraged to participate in this chapter with current student enrollment at approximately 100 students. . The chapter sponsors monthly meetings where safety and health professionals speak to the group about a variety of safety and health issues. In addition, this chapter also completes a variety of community services including a CPR Day and a School Bus Safety Training Program for local elementary schools.
