Frequently Asked Questions
A: You can plan a visit to IUP and meet the students, faculty and staff. You can call 724-357-2557 for more information or to schedule an individualized meeting. While on campus, you might want to plan a shadow experience with a current nursing major. Come for the day or plan to stay overnight on the Nursing and Allied Health floor in one of the residence halls. Just give us a call and we will make the plans.
A: Nursing students have access to state vehicles for travel to clinical sites during their sophomore and junior years. Senior students do not have access to state vehicles and typically car pool to their clinical sites.
A: Generally, students travel within a sixty-mile radius from main campus for their clinical assignments.
A: Usually, students have classes on campus on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Clinical courses are generally scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday.
A: Many courses offer supplemental instruction (SI) sessions where upper class students who have been successful in the course are available for three hours per week to help students review class notes, complete homework, and study for exams. Additional special topics courses are offered in nursing that help students develop learning and study skills in nursing.
A: Pass rates on the licensing examination may vary from year to year; however, over the past 5 years the average pass rate for IUP graduates is 83% success on a first attempt.
A: In addition to the wide array of activities across campus, there are also nursing organizations that students enjoy. The Student Nurses' Organization of Pennsylvania (SNAP) is part of the National Student Nurses' Association and has an active chapter at IUP. Alpha Tau Delta (ATD) is another organization for nursing students. Member of ATD participate in service and social activities. Additionally, The Zeta Lambda chapter of Sigma Theta Tau is an international nursing honor society that provides opportunities for career development for undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty and students also participate in the Nurses Christian Fellowship group. |
