Assistantships and Financial Aid

IUP offers both half-time assistantships (20 hrs./week of service) and quarter-time (10 hrs./week of service) to full-time graduate students.  Assistantship responsibilities include supervised teaching, research experience and various university service.  Assistantships are viewed as an encouragement or reward for academic excellence rather than as a means to relieve financial need.  The deadline for applying for a fall assistantship is March 15 of the same calendar year.

The financial Aid Office, located at 308 Pratt Hall, offers financial information and counseling to all student attending IUP.  The types of financial assistance offered by the Financial Aid Office include student employment and loans.  The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine eligibility for federal and state financial assistance.  The filing deadline is May 1 of each year for the following fall semester.

Graduate students attending IUP on at least a half-time basis (5 credit hours or more per semester) will be awarded assistance based on demonstrated financial need.  To remain eligible for continued funding, applicants MUST remain in satisfactory academic standing at the university and show continued academic progress.
