Advising Session

Preparing for an advising session

Advising meeting appointments will need to be made with your advisor. Advising sessions are typically twenty minutes long. You will need to schedule your advising meeting outside of your advisor’s office door.

A. Your computer determined IUP time appointment notice will note the time and day you may begin to register for classes. You should meet with your advisor at least 3 to 5 days prior to your scheduled registration time. At this time, your advisor will provide you with a copy of your time appointment letter and your alternate PIN number.

B. You need to bring your curriculum sheet for your advising session. Please make sure you prepare a list of courses you wish to take prior to arriving at your scheduled appointment.

C. Update your curriculum sheet upon completion of scheduling on Banner.

D. Review requirements for graduation for your particular track when appropriate.

E. Advising Errors:
• Most students forget that they must have two writing intensive courses
(check dept specific requirements)
• You must have 120 credits to graduate
• Courses numbered 010 to 099 should be discussed with your advisor,
since these courses do not count toward graduation
• You are allowed 5 class withdrawals and up to 6 D/F repeats during your
undergraduate studies. Please discuss with your advisor.

F. To register go to http://www.iup.edu/ursa. To register for classes, follow the instruction as outlined in your Time Appointment Letter or view them online here: Registration Instructions.
