Tour - Campus
IUP is big enough to be interesting but small enough to
be manageable. Main campus is undergoing major changes, rebuilding
residence halls, renovating Fisher Auditorium and classroom buildings, and
awaiting the start of construction on the Kovalchick Convention and
Athletic Complex adjacent to the university. As the campus changes,
however, some favorite haunts of past generations of students remain for
us to enjoy....
Sutton Hall and White's Woods Walking through the Oak Grove Relaxing on the Oak Grove The Hadley Union Building (HUB) Women's Basketball - Champions!
Although large new dormitories are springing up around it, the Sutton Hall bell tower is still a point of reference on campus. Sutton Hall, which once contained almost all of the university, is chiefly an administrative building today, but it remains at the heart of the campus. Sutton Hall and Ackerman Hall watch over the new residence halls being built across the street in Spring 2007. This "Residential Revival" is the largest project of its kind in the nation. The first two new residence halls opened this fall. A magnificent view of Sutton Hall against the backdrop of White's Woods in the autumn. The view from the Oak Grove in summer 2007. It remains a place of beauty, a make-shift classroom, a meeting ground, and a major campus thoroughfare. All roads lead to the Oak Grove.... The library looks out on the Oak Grove and is a popular gathering place with study areas, computer labs, and a coffee shop. A class meets outside on a beautiful day in the Oak Grove. Breezedale was a mansion built by the brother of John Sutton, for whom Sutton hall was named. Today it houses the Alumni Association, and many university meetings are held there. The Breezedale Library was added by another famous occupant, John Pratt Elkin. He later became state Attorney General. Students, staff and faculty go to the HUB for meals, a fitness center, meetings, and a computer lab. The Co-op Bookstore is also in the HUB. The President and Mrs. Atwater ride in the Homecoming Parade, which winds through Indiana on the edge of campus. The Marching Band rehearses in Miller Stadium. The women's basketball team brought home a championship in 2007. A short ride from campus, the College Lodge is a place to hold meetings, celebrations, and enjoy nature in any season. The College Lodge is the scene of recreational activities and professional retreats.
Although large new dormitories are springing up around it, the Sutton Hall bell tower is still a point of reference on campus.
