Program Overview

Students in Fashion Merchandising

Fashion Merchandising is a major in the Department of Human Development and Environmental Studies within the College of Health and Human Services. The mission of the department is to empower individuals to support human and environmental needs, enabling them to perform professionally in a changing, diverse, technological and global society.

The Fashion Merchandising curriculum consists of university liberal studies requirements, apparel and textile core courses and electives, and a specific business concentration. Upon completion of all academic requirements, the students earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising.

Many students apply theoretical concepts through an internship experience. Students have completed internships throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Sites for internships include retail firms in which student work in buying offices, in management positions in stores, in personnel departments, with visual merchandisers, in store operations or in marketing departments. Students have also interned in sales offices in manufacturing firms and in the apparel factories. Mall operations is another internship opportunity.

If you are looking for a career that is fast paced, challenging and continually changing, than Fashion Merchandising is for you.
