Dr. Rita Johnson joined the IUP faculty Fall 1980. She earned a BS in Dietetics
and Chemical Technology at Ball State University, MS in Food and Nutrition from
Purdue University and a PhD in Nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University.
Her instructional responsibilities include: FDNT 110, Careers in Food and Nutrition;
FDNT 402, Community Nutrition; FDNT 430, Professional Topics; FDNT 458/558,
Advanced Human Nutrition; FDNT 651, Professional Dietetic Practice II; and FDNT
646, Vitamins and Minerals. In addition, she is the Faculty Rotation Coordinator
for the IUP Dietetic Internship's Clinical Rotation. Her program and research
Interests include: sports nutrition, public policy and legislation, supplementation.
Dr. Johnson has received numerous award and honors to include the: SCAN Achievement
Award; Keystone Award from the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association; Recognition
of Service to the Indiana County Community Action Program; Outstanding Dietetics
Educator for Area VI, Dietetic Educators of Practitioners; and Charter, Fellow
of the American Dietetic Association. She currently serves on the Editorial
Advisory Board of Today’s Dietitian. Her recent professional development
includes: presentations and attendance to The American Dietetic Association
Annual Meetings, Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutritionists, and Pennsylvania
Dietetic Association.
