M.A. in Criminology Program offered at the IUP Monroeville CenterIUP's Masters of Arts degree in Criminology prepares students for administrative and research positions in the criminal justice system and related fields. It also is designed for professionals already working in these areas who wish to broaden their career opportunities. IUP's criminology program has been in existence for over twenty years. It offers students a strong theoretical foundation coupled with an emphasis on practical application and policy. This program also prepares students for doctoral studies. IUP offers an on-campus doctoral program for individuals who plan to continue their education after earning their M.A. in Criminology. FormatThe M.A. in Criminology can be completed in two years without career interruption. During the academic year, two courses will be offered each semester: one on Monday evening and one on Wednesday evening. One course also will be offered each summer; generally, courses will end by the middle of August. Location IUP Monroeville Graduate and Professional Center Telephone: 412-824-1999 Admissions CriteriaStudents must meet the requirements for admission to the Graduate School. They should also have a bachelor's degree in Criminology or work-related experience in combination with an undergraduate degree from a related discipline. CohortThis unique program is set up in a cohort format where members begin the program at the same time, attend all required courses together, and complete the program as a group. This method allows participants to establish long-term study groups and long lasting networks. CurriculumA total of 30 semester hours is required. Students have the option of choosing between a thesis and non-thesis curriculum. Students who choose the thesis option must write a six credit hour thesis and complete six credit hours of elective courses, while students who choose the non-thesis option must complete twelve hours of elective courses. The thesis credits will be arranged through the main campus, while the elective courses will be offered at the Pittsburgh site. Tuition
